Resident Creatures

Besides the 5 large gold fish in our little pond,
there is a resident bull frog.

We added this little prince as a companion for it, after Caden found it in the pool.

These first two weeks have been full of new creatures for us. . .

A plethora of bugs and spiders everywhere, ticks, chiggers, fish, snakes, little frogs and bullfrogs.

We also found a muskrat down by the creek. . .

And the neighbors told us to keep an eye out for turkeys, bald eagles, and deer.

Our neighbor's dog is also going to have puppies in a few weeks.
Taffy will probably start living over there.

Living Without our Stuff

The four days before the moving truck came were full of good and not so good things.

A bad thing was having to sleep on cots and the floor.
This ol' body doesn't like that so much.

But without any tv or electronics, we spent a lot of time talking and exploring our surroundings.
The backside of our property is marked by a creek and it was so neat to see the kids running - really stretching out and running - over the vast expanse of grass.

The nerve endings that had been rubbed raw by the intensity and stress of packing and moving began to heal amidst all the green.  Even the pool was green.  (That has since been remedied.)

Walking home from the bus stop all together is a highlight of my day.

Taffy and I both got ticks - yeehaw.
We're surprised Taffy hasn't gotten more.
That kid was born to be outdoors.  The first morning we were here, all the other kids were still asleep when Taffy was out and about catching frogs and tromping through the yard.

The evenings have been beautiful and without other distractions available, the kids played together.

Every night around 8:30, the frogs come out.
We have a bucket designated for frog catching, and releasing them by having races is turning into a fun tradition.

(Notice Taffy's cute galoshes - we all got some - it's wet and grassy and buggy here.)

One afternoon, Taffy came up to me with something in her hand.
She was looking at it adoringly.

It was a worm.
Guess you don't see those much in Vegas.

The day the moving van came, we got a mower from the previous owner's of the house.
It's Caden's new favorite activity - and mowing the whole lawn takes about 3 hours.

As soon as the pool was blue again, it has been very enjoyable. . .

. . . and before our kitchen became functional, we shopped around for a midwest substitute for Cafe Rio and In 'N Out.  We haven't found any, but Penn Station is under consideration.
(KD pulled Sarah down onto her lap and wouldn't let her get back up).

1st Day of School!

School began Thursday
(still no moving truck)
I have the awesomest kids!!!!

Jaycie - 11th

Tabitha - kindergarten

Sarah - 3rd

Bethany - 9th

Timothy - 5th

Karen obviously gets to stay home.

And where the heck is Caden????
We were leaving in a rush and I must have missed him!
He's is 7th and I will post a pic soon, looking like he's going to school.

All the kids walked up to the top of our street together to the bus stop.
They all get picked up and dropped off together.
It's a site to make a mom smile.

Our kids are awesome!
This move and starting new schools was not an easy thing to ask of them,
but they didn't complain and embraced the new experience.

The First Day in our new Home

The day after arriving, we explored our yard,

and learned how to feed the fish in the little pond by the kitchen.

I spent all day running different kids to their schools to get their schedules and make sure they were all good to start school.

Jaycie is at the high school, Benny at the jr. high, Caden at the middle school, and Timo, Sarah, and Taffy are at the elementary.

Taffy is starting kindergarten!!!

The moving truck hadn't arrived yet
so we were very grateful that the previous owners left this table and chairs!

Missouri or Bust!

We left dear Las Vegas after church Sunday, August 11th, and drove to Flagstaff.
Monday we drove 14 hours to Oklahoma City.
We were all exhausted!

(The older kids always feel so special when they get their own hotel room.)

We were grateful for breakfast in the hotels,

And little towns, like Shamrock, where there was McDonald's. . .

. . . and guys in trucks dragging Maine that whistled at Jaycie and Benny.

A rest stop with a playground was a welcome relief!

Tuesday we arrived in our new state just in time to catch some frogs before going to bed. . .

. . . in the dining room.

Thus begins a new chapter in our lives.
