Shout out to all those mom's out there. . .

When you are a mom,

life is just one big interruption.

Maybe interruption isn't the right word. . . because we love most of the things that interrupt us.

Children,
husbands,
phone calls,
friends,
appointments,
spills,
diapers,
scrapes,
papers to sign,
mouths to feed. . . NOW,
fights to break up,
opportunities to teach,
times to listen to chatter, worries, frustrations, joys,
snuggles,
stories,
a forgotten lunch sack,
a printer that won't print off the last minute assignment,
break downs,
cars that need gas,
a ride is needed,
children's activities,
church activities,
visiting teaching,
the hand that needs holding,
etc., etc.

The trick is to love ourselves and know that we HAVE accomplished something by the end of the day.

We have loved our interruptions.
We have been there when the need has arisen.

We have given hugs,
applied bandaids,
made food,
listened,
wiped,
scrubbed,
hugged,
attended,
visited,
gotten everyone where they need to be,
saved the last minute assignment,
taken time to be by someone.

We are moms, living our one big interrupted life.

We chose it, and we love it.

What a winter!

The beginning of December we got hit with an icestorm which morphed into a snowstorm.
This left us with a couple of inches of ice underneath a foot of snow.

School was cancelled. . .

For too long. . .

Our school district has a huge boundary with lots of gravel roads and this winter we discovered that ice doesn't melt quickly on gravel roads.  While the rest of the city was up and running, the schools had to stay closed because the buses couldn't do their whole routes.

School also closed the first few days after Christmas break AND for a week starting Feb. 4th.
So. . . we've seen a lot of each other.

The first storm was the funnest.
We decorated for Christmas,

enjoyed the fireplace and hot chocolate,

and played in the snow we haven't experienced much of the last four years.

Sledding was fun
(excepting the black eye),

And it was fun to remember all the things that go along with snow hats, snow pants, gloves, boots, etc., etc. . . although when all those things multiplied by 7 are piled in the entryway it's a little crowded.

Luckily the bunnies were around to offer some creative bunny-fort building,

We still had boxes hanging around for some decorating and imagining,

and we all had to get creative to not go crazy as the phone would ring and yet another day of school was cancelled.

Three cheers for the upcoming arrival of spring!

A Sunday Explore . . .

Jeremy had to sleep after church today because of work tonight.
The kids were WIRED and LOUD.
So we went for a walk.

Timo brought a bat because "you never know what may attack us."
It's good to have a protector around (especially from the grass).

Our house is on the edge of acres of country.  It is so beautiful!
It brought back many memories of my childhood rambles about the fields in Circleville, making believe and imagining.

I was so excited for my kids to have access to such things,
but then realized they have no idea how to do that!  How sad!
So I suggested they each pick a hay bale to be their house.
Timo and Sarah took off running to pick the best one and they scared up some deer.

The girls chose a haybale to share.

Timo proceeded to pound his with his bat, all the while singing a catchy song he made up on the spot.

The song delighted Taffy and Sarah as they eavesdropped.

When it was time to head indoors with the wind nipping our noses,

Timo led the troops echoing his song,
"Hurrah!  Hurrah!"
all the way home.

A warm day!!!!!!!!

Today it got up in the 60's!

It's about time.
We were all heading into a depression.
(Miss all that Vegas sun!)

The whole front walk is lined by these grasses.
I told the girls the grasses were all customers needing a haircut and the line was going out the door.

We finished and soaked up some much needed sun.
I LOVE YARD WORK!!!

KD is 3!

Cute #7 is 3!
(back in November)

KD is an awesome and busy little person.

After we ate the jello "cake" she helped make and opened presents, we headed to St. Louis to go to the City Museum.

There couldn't have been a better place to celebrate KD's little life.

She is a fearless climber and loves adventures.
To illustrate her endurance, over Christmas break we went to a fort for 3 hours in the FREEZING wind, drove an hour, then trekked all over the U.S. Alabama (a retired naval ship) for another 3 hours.
KD didn't whine or complain or ask to be carried the WHOLE time.
Never in my life have I witnessed a three year old do that.
She walked around the ship with her hands in her pockets and a content little smile on her face.
The key to keeping this kid happy is giving her adventures.

At the City Museum we met up with some of my Farnsworth 2nd cousins.
(I met Stan when he was serving a mission in Las Vegas - funny way to meet your cousin, eh?)

The cousins are native St. Louisans so showed us all around that crazy museum.
It's like a beautifully decorated McDonald's playground on steroids for adults.
There's no rules, a fire pit outside. . . you just climb in, around, and on everything you see.
A KD paradise.

I don't think I got around to doing a bday post for KD last year, so here come a plethura of pics summing up her year #2.

For a while there, my favorite time to look at KD was when she was sleeping.
She is a very intense little person who loves me A LOT. . .
which flatters me but made doing anything but paying her attention extremely difficult and frustrating.

I believe that our strengths are also our weaknesses unless they can learn to be controlled.
As KD is growing up, I am seeing the things that used to plague me as her weaknesses turning into some incredible strengths.

Her love for people, when given, is intense.
She sums people up in a moment and knows their intentions.

She was definitely saved for this electronic age.
The other night we were going to read scriptures.  I always read them off my phone.
KD was playing a game on it at the moment and when I asked for it, she handed it to me with the chapter we were currently reading pulled up.  What in the world?  How did she know where to find the scriptures?

When we lived in Vegas, KD would come downstairs in the morning, stretch her arms waaaay up and sigh, "I'm so tired."  (It's because you've been up all night with me, little one.)

The key to KD is to channel her energy and curiosity.  She is the most pleasant, cutest, obedient, shy little lady when she's out and about discovering.

The trampoline is a huge love of hers.

She is extremely smart and there is never any tricking her.
When I thought about potty-training for the 7th time I just about cried.
But KD's strengths surfaced and she was COMPLETELY potty trained in one day.

It was a rough morning and she had accident after accident so I put a diaper back on for the afternoon.
After she filled her diaper she really did not like how it felt (perhaps being free from that all morning had it's impact) and she wanted undies back on.

From that moment on she was accident free.  Amazing and Hallelujah!!!!

It's been interesting to see how a little one grows up when there are older siblings around.
Mannerisms, exposure to music, etc. are on a whole different level.

KD loves sand and the ocean.
(She has quit eating sand by the handfuls, thank goodness - see a previous ocean post.)

Her first haircut fit her personality quite well.

She is a little pixie and imp.

She used to drag these buckets around in our Vegas kitchen so she could see what was going on up on the counters and she loves to help cook any time she can.

These two blondie's couldn't be more different, but they have turned into good friends.

KD wishes she could live in a swimming pool and could swim anywhere in our pool the summer before she turned three.  She would watch her siblings diving, flipping, jumping and swimming and would do her best to copy everything they did.

She is not one to be left behind.

In her three years of life, she has lived in three different houses - 2 in Vegas and now in Missouri.

She loves to be dolled up by her older sisters and she has crazy abilities in dancing and acting.

KD has a very fun sense of humor.

She got this shiner in December after she started down a sledding hill too fast before the other kids could get out of the way.  Perhaps her mother should have been out there with her. . . KD is just too fast for everyone.

KD is a very flexible child (we're not sure where she got that gene).
She also loves to tell stories and has a baby named "Jon".
Whenever her tummy is full she says she's going to have a baby.

KD can color in the lines like a champion - pretty impressive for a 3 year old - and paints using a lot of colors, never mixing together with many shapes and lines.

Holy cow! we love this little lady and have decided she was saved 'til #7 to keep us young.
