After the Stake Pinewood Derby,
we followed some new friends to check out the fair.
It was SO humid and hot.
We were all dripping.

The highlight was definitely the 3 month old baby camel
who would make the weirdest, loudest noise with no warning at all.
It made the kids pretty nervous to pet her because you never knew when she'd start yelling.
Of course, Jaycie loved the horses the best.
(Have you ever seen a draft mule? They are HUGE! We didn't get a pic of them, but they are just as big as this draft horse excepting their heads are monstrosities and their ears are massive.)
After checking out horses, mules, cows, chickens, and rabbits in the sweltering sun, we voted to go home. But next year we will be ready for the fair, that to some folks around here, is a bigger event than Christmas, just like in Charlotte's Web.
Afterwards, we had a few minutes to grab some refreshment at Aldi
(the best grocery store in the midwest)
and show the kids the Mississippi River
(they hadn't had a chance to see it yet)
before going to meet Jaycie's new violin teacher.
It was a busy day, but was really refreshing to have all the kid's together having adventures
just like in the good old days, when they were all little.
(There are some perks to not knowing anybody when you first move.)
